Choir I

Grade 2 and up

Choir I is the junior ensemble of the award-winning treble choirs of the Bach Children's Chorus.

Our weekly program includes small group singing time, choral repertoire rehearsal, a nutritious snack break, and hands-on music theory and sight-singing lessons. Participants will enjoy an introduction to choral singing with top quality repertoire, skill-building singing games alongside expert instruction in solfege, note-identification, ear training, and rhythmic skills. Participation in the A Young Singer’s Journey Theory program is mandatory. Choir I emphasizes singing in a beautiful head tone, memorizing numerous songs for performance, and the excitement of singing in concert with the full Bach Children's Chorus and Bach Chamber Youth Choir! Choir I meets for 1 hour 45 minutes each week from September through early December and January through mid-May.

Schedule: Sundays 2:45pm-4:30pm

Location: Scarborough Bluffs United Church

Prerequisites: Short vocal audition. Auditions take about 5 minutes and are done in a friendly teaching manner, allowing the child to find a head tone, to explore the full range and to allow the child to demonstrate their maturity and focus.

Performances: Together with Prep Choir, Choir I performs in a recital in December at Scarborough Bluffs United Church and then in concert with all levels of the Bach Children’s Chorus & Bach Chamber Youth Choir at two feature concerts, typically held at the beautiful Meridian Arts Centre in December and May. Choir I also competes in the local Kiwanis Music Festival each February. Occasionally, extra performance opportunities are added to the schedule.

Conductor: Charissa Bagan assisted by Sarah Buisman and Meredith Wanstall
