(Singers in Grade 3 may be invited based on skill, vocal proficiency, maturity)
Choir II is the intermediate ensemble of the award-winning treble choirs of the Bach Children's Chorus. Choir II emphasizes learning to sing in parts, memorizing numerous songs for performance, and becoming proficient in music theory and sight-singing! Participation in the A Young Singer’s Journey Theory program and weekly Sight-Singing is mandatory and built into the rehearsals. Small weekly homework assignments are expected to keep each singer building skill and confidence. Choir II meets for 2 hours each week from September through early December and January through mid-May.
Schedule: Mondays 5:00pm-7:00pm with optional small group enrichment time from 4:45pm-5:00pm
Location: Scarborough Bluffs United Church
Prerequisites: Must audition prior to entry, including current Choir I singers. Must have completed A Young Singer’s Journey Books I & II (singers who are new to the BCC may be given an adjusted timeline for their theory book completion) and demonstrate readiness for singing in harmony.
Performances: Choir II performs in concert with all levels of the Bach Children’s Chorus & Bach Chamber Youth Choir at the beautiful Meridian Arts Centre in December and May! Choir II also performs additional concerts with the BCC as opportunities arise. The most typical performances/events include a Saturday retreat at Rocky Ridge Ranch in September, a November concert, an afternoon retreat in February, competing in the local Kiwanis Music Festival, and the Junior Treble Festival in April.
